A Glimpse Into The Future

New Master Plan

Your United Methodist Camps are being re-created to better serve you in the future!  In June of 2006, we unveiled the new Master Plans for our three sites, Camp Otterbein, Camp Wesley and Widewater Retreat Center.  An exciting future lies ahead as we seek to serve you with continued excellence.  While living into these plans will take 10-15 years, we are beginning work at each site immediately.  Here is a glimpse of what the future holds at each site as well as changes you should expect by next summer:

OTTERBEIN

The plans for enhancing our facilities at Camp Otterbein include a new log cabin village for summer campers, new high ropes course, new retreat and leadership lodges, a new dining hall, expanded recreation area, a new outdoor chapel and much more.  By next summer, Albright Lodge (dining hall) will be renovated with a new entry way, new lighting, new furnishings, new windows (and a new heating system and new restrooms within the 2007 year).

WESLEY

The plans for re-creating the facilities at Camp Wesley include replacing the summer cabins with a yurt village and new bathhouses, adding two retreat lodges, expanding the dining hall, a new program center and much more.  By next summer five new yurts will be built for housing 70 campers and two new shower houses will be constructed within the yurt village.

WIDEWATER

Widewater’s facilities will be enhanced by converting Harmony Lodge to an adult facility with bathrooms in each bedroom, adding three youth lodges, a new dining center, and other activity areas around the site.  By next summer we will have two lodge rooms converted to include private bathrooms to give a glimpse of what the lodge will look like.

How Can You Help?

Work teams:  Each site needs work teams to help with these projects.  The more skilled volunteer labor available, the less cost for each project.

Funds:  This is just the beginning of a much larger plan.  Each site is seeking funds to continue living into the future.  If you or your church is willing to leave a legacy for future campers, here are some ideas to consider:

Otterbein:  Replace the high ropes course, build new summer housing area and create new outdoor worship area, approximately $175,000 total.

Wesley:  Funding for the remaining yurts to be constructed (to replace all of the summer cabins), approximately $250,000 total.

Widewater:  Convert remaining rooms on one wing of lodge, approximately $240,000 total.
